Robert Carter introduces new Norfolk Sunday Cricket Competitions incorporating the Carter & NACO Cups

The draws for the Carter & NACO cup competitions have now been made at the Inaugural meeting of the competition at Horsford Cricket Club on Monday 2 March 2015.

Over 30 clubs were represented at the meeting and were welcomed by Robert Carter of the R G Carter Group – Mr Carter gave a brief history of the competition now commencing its 47th year and predicted exciting times ahead for the new format and the progress of Norfolk cricket in general. He believed that there was a need for both competitions to join forces and considered in by doing so that Sunday knock out cricket would be strengthened by the merger of the Carter & Norfolk Association of Cricket Officials competitions.

The first round draw for the Carter Cup kept the 5 EAPL clubs apart and paired together Downham Town and Fakenham the winners and runners up in the Alliance Premier 2014.

The draw also paired together an intriguing local derby between Norwich and Sprowston.

The revamped Lady Mary Trophy has paired Alliance new boys Bircham at home to Bradfield and produced one all Alliance Division One clash between Acle and Mattishall.

The Carter NACO shield is contested by 14 clubs split over the county with the 2014 NACO Shield winners Anglians being drawn away at Belton.

Also a most intriguing tie pairs Norfolk league side Sandringham at home against Hethersett & Tas Valley of the Alliance Division Two.

The organising committee consisting of members of both organisations have worked diligently throughout the winter months to bring the competitions together and are now eagerly looking forward to the 1st round starting in May 2015.
