CARTER CUP UNDERWAY ON SUNDAY 15 MAY 2016

The 1st Round of the 2016 Bob Carter Cup Competition gets underway this coming Sunday 15 May 2016 with the organisers hoping for the fine weather of last weekend.

The holders Norwich start the new campaign with a difficult away game at fellow East Anglian Premier League rivals Vauxhall Mallards in possibly the pick of the first round matches. The Ducks will need no incentive to start the new campaign with a win however Norwich will offer strong opposition in what should be an excellent advert for the 60 Over format of the game.

Elsewhere high scoring Cromer will fancy their chances after being drawn at home against Great Witchingham – the question being will the Witches once more fall at the first hurdle.

Brooke and Acle provide the entertainment in the Eastern part of the county, whilst Fakenham face a difficult home game against beaten 2015 finalists, Swardeston who will be hoping for another display of power hitting from Joe Gatting.

Horsford from the EAPL start their campaign at Manor Park against Alliance One side Ashmanaugh & Barton Wanderers with the men from Barton Turf hoping to pull off a giant killing act at the home of Norfolk County Cricket.

The remaining games are all Alliance Premier teams matched up against each other; Diss versus Downham Town will pit Dan Kelly from Downham against a Diss side always a difficult side to beat at Rectory Meadow who will certainly miss the bowling guile of the injured Mark Williamson.

North Runcton are at home against Terry Perry’s Old Buckenham who are always a difficult side to beat with the likes of Andy Lawrence and Robbie Austin providing the backbone of a very good team; Peter Free is always a batsmen who can score quick runs so therefore this could provide a very entertaining game.

The final game in the 1st round draw see’s a much improved Sprowston side at home under new leadership taking  on newly promoted Stow.
